Answer all query with same single IP

hi.

i'm setting up dns for few of my unused (parked) domains.
so i want it quick and easy.

i want the dns server answer one single same respond to whatever
request came in.

is it possible? how do i set it up?

You may want to setup dns server with single domain with wildcard A record (or multiple, by tld, if you prefer),
e.g. “.” or “com.”

  • IN A 1.2.3.4

Hi,
have you read about wildcard records here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildcard_DNS_record
I’d like to point it is not nsd specific, and for this task you can go with any dns server around (unless having some extra requirements),
so if you are new with nsd, but familiar with mydns/bind/powerdns/whatsoever
you can use that.

yes i know wildcard subdomain.
with it, i can point whatever.mydomainname.com to an ip.
i already did that.

but i need a wildcard domain.
that will answer to whateversubdomain.andwhateverdomain.whatever

and i prefer nsd/maradns for its memory consumption compared to bind.
i'm on small vps.

just set domain to “.” instead of “mydomain.com”
