My unbound is unstable, it fails the second time this week.

What can be?

I think this could be caused by the same causes that caused the other
assertion failures that have been fixed in 1.4.18; but this faulty
code is not present in 1.4.16. Not sure what the 1.4.16-3 means, what
patches have been applied here? Did that have the faulty-bugfix (from
1.4.17) that caused the problem?

Is the "faulty code" present in 1.4.17 as well? This is the version I'm running while experiencing that crash. If I experience it again I will try to turn on query logging for that instance. I very may well have experienced this and just not known about it since my recovery script just restarts and only notifies if it cannot (I'll adjust that).

By the way, I just wanted to say 'thanks' for all your hard work making this server available. It really is quite something.

Yes, it is in 1.4.17, it was introduced in version 1.4.17 as a bugfix
for something else. That is why I want to investigate the report for
1.4.16"-3" (and what that -3 does, or that there is a bug in 1.4.16).

Thanks for testing, could you use 1.4.18 (-rc1), that contains a fix.
That fix I think may also fix this issue.
